Hi!

I’m Melissa, aka “Ms. G.” I’m a scientist, educator, and lifelong explorer of the natural world. Science With Ms. G is my way of bringing curiosity, confidence, and hands-on learning into classrooms everywhere. I create real-world, classroom-ready resources that help teachers inspire students — all while keeping lesson planning simple and meaningful.

A Life Rooted in Science

My love for science began long before I taught a single class. I earned my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Biology, diving into research across ecology, genetics, and environmental science. My work has taken me from coastal marshes studying invasive species and saltwater intrusion, to tracking mammal populations in places like Chernobyl and Fukushima, and even managing field studies on U.S. military bases. Along the way, I discovered that the real thrill of science is not just in discovery, but in sharing it with others.

Where My Love for Teaching Began

My love for science began long before I stepped into a classroom. I earned my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Biology, diving into research across ecology, genetics, and environmental science. My work took me from studying invasive species in California and saltwater intrusion in South Carolina marshes, to tracking mammal populations in places like Chernobyl and Fukushima, and even managing field studies on U.S. military bases.

My path as a scientist took a turn in grad school. Teaching biology labs and mentoring undergraduates as they designed and executed their thesis projects revealed a new passion. Guiding students through experiments, watching their eyes light up with discovery, and helping them connect concepts to the real world — that’s when I realized I loved teaching even more than research. From that moment on, I knew my focus would be on creating meaningful, engaging learning experiences for students.

Bringing Science Into Classrooms

After grad school, I began teaching at the middle school, high school, and college levels, helping students explore science through hands-on labs, real-world projects, and inquiry-based learning. Along the way, I discovered the powerful impact of real-world learning — from field trips and guest speakers to authentic project-based experiences. I was continually amazed by how engaged all students became when they could clearly see the connection between science and their own lives.

These experiences taught me what works — and what teachers really need — to make science engaging, understandable, and achievable for every learner.

Creating Resources That Make an Impact

Today, I combine my research background and teaching expertise to create high-quality, low-prep science resources. From full units to quick labs and project-based learning (PBL) activities, every resource is designed to help teachers:

  • Spark curiosity in students

  • Build deep understanding of scientific concepts

  • Make learning feel relevant and real

I want every student to feel like a scientist — curious, capable, and empowered to make a real difference in the world — and every teacher to feel confident, supported, and inspired in their work.
